Hearts ready to give Paille chance to rebuild his career
18 Oct 1996
JIM Jefferies is ready to offer Stephane Paille the chance to rebuild his career with Hearts, but the Frenchman will have to prove his worth first.
Jefferies had a "tete a tete" with Paille yesterday over a new contract and the pair will have further talks before Sunday's televised premier division match with Celtic.
The Hearts manager has offered the 31-year-old striker a temporary package, but he's also dangled the carrot of a long-term deal in front of him.
"I've told Stephane we're happy to look at things and maybe sign him up for a couple of months," said Jefferies.
"But we're not putting any time limit on it, and if we thought he deserved a long-term contract earlier than that, we'll negotiate again.
"It's up to him.
We haven't seen enough of him yet, but if he shows us what he can do in the first week, we'll be delighted.
He's a class act and has improved with every game since he came here." Paille is likely to get another chance to prove himself in the game with Celtic and if he does sign, Hearts may have to have a drastic re-think over their new club magazine which was launched yesterday.
Called "The Jambo" it's only published in English at the moment, but with Paille, Gilles Rousset, Pasquale Bruno, and Stefano Salvatori now on the books, a foreign language version may be needed soon.
