United bid for Crabbe

DUNDEE United last night made a £400,000 bid for Hearts striker Scott Crabbe.

The deal involves cash plus United's left winger, Alan Preston.

At the weekend, Argentinian Victor Ferrerya was shown the red card at the end of the Dundee derby and United are in the market for a new striker.

Crabbe, who has been at Hearts since his schoolboy days, has not been able to command a regular first-team place under Joe Jordan at Tynecastle.

Jordan would welcome the cash that a Crabbe deal might produce as he bids to keep Hearts in contention for the premier-division title.

In particular, he has Ron Willems training at Tynecastle this week and would like to make the Ajax striker's stay permanent.
