Quality goals for Hearts23 Aug 1990 Cowdenbeath 0, Hearts 2 TWO well-taken goals put Hearts through to the third round of the Skol Cup. Hearts' keeper Henry Smith did not have a shot to save all night but the second-division side took credit for their plucky performance and seldom allowed their opponents to settle. Although there were few goalmouth incidents, two quality goals sent the Hearts' fans home happy to Edinburgh. The first goal was a typical example of John Robertson's ability to snatch a goal. Robertson put Hearts ahead in 18 minutes when he ran on to a Walter Kidd pass to shoot high into the net from a difficult angle. Hearts brought on Bannon for Wayne Foster after the interval but in 55 minutes 'keeper Henry Smith had to run out of his box bravely to clear from Alan MacKenzie as he broke through the Hearts' defence. Five minutes later, Robertson headed down a Bannon cross to Scott Crabbe who shot past from 20 yards. Hearts clinched victory in 68 minutes when Crabbe sent Bannon racing clear from just inside his own half and, as keeper Lamont rushed out, he cleverly lobbed the ball into the net.
