Hearts come up trumps.HUGH TAYLOR The unquenchable fighting spirit of Heart of Midlothian enabled them to earn a point in a 1-1 draw with Aberdeen at Tynecastle yesterday and virtually assured them of the League championship. Although not at their best, they fought back to equalize three minutes from time, Colquhoun being the marksman, after a composed Aberdeen went ahead through a penalty scored by Weir. A crowd of 19,047 watched this, Scotland's first premier division game to be televised live. On Saturday two late goals from Archdeacon and McClair preserved Celtic's dwindling hope of thwarting that ambition with an uninspired 2-0 victory over Hibernain. Celtic, although extending their unbeaten League run to 13 matches, allowed commitment to overrule composed football. Dundee United are virtually out of contention after dropping a point in a 1-1 draw with Clydebank. Dundee, who had started nervously against Motherwell at Dens Park, scored four goals in the second half. Taken from timesonline.co.uk |
