What Happened

Hearts were top of the league and in the middle of the famous 27 league games in a row unbeaten run.

Aberdeen were current champions and at the peak of their powers. Hearts fought and scrapped for every ball and, with eight minutes left, looked like securing a highly creditable 0-0 draw against one of Europe's finest teams (well, it was a long time ago!)

Then, Walter Kidd swept a thirty yard pass to the on-rushing John Colquhoun who buried it behind Jim Leighton to secure a famous victory for the JTs.

The 5,000 Hearts fans at Pittodrie's Beach End could scarcely contain themselves. 'We're Gonna Win the League' came the cry - and who, at that time, would bet against us?
