Deal or no deal? Jambo Aguiar has higher priorities

BRUNO AGUIAR made it clear today he hasn't even thought about his contract situation at Hearts – because a year ago he didn't know if he would be able to continue playing the game.
Aguiar's deal runs out at the end of the season but the midfielder hasn't had time to consider his future because he's been busy trying to fight his way back to fitness after a serious knee injury.

The Portuguese player admitted that the last 18 months of rehabilitation after a training ground tackle by then team-mate Julien Brellier have been so tough that at one point he thought his playing career might be finished.

But, having played the last two reserve games for the Jambos, scored two goals in that time, he is brimming with confidence once again and says that now is not the time to talk about contracts.

"I know that my contract is finished at the end of the year but right now I don't think about this because one year ago I thought that I would maybe not be able to play football any more," he explained.

"If I am fit I know that I have a chance – although I don't know if I will stay here or be with another club. The most important thing for me is to be fit, that is the only thing that matters."

Aguiar has declared himself fit for selection for the upcoming Edinburgh derby, although he knows that he will face a battle to get back in the side with the likes of Michael Stewart, Larry Kingston, Christos Karipidis, Ruben Palazuelos and Eggert Jonsson all competing for a slot in the middle.

However, Aguiar added: "In football it is important for the team to have a lot of players in their side with quality.

"Of course, I want to play and I want to help the team and if the coach needs me than I am ready.

"I am very happy at this moment, I have played the last three reserve games for the club and I feel very good.

"I may not be 100 per cent as yet, but I feel 99 per cent and in the games that I have played I have scored two goals and that has been very important for my confidence.

"When I was injured I sometimes thought that I might not play like before, but the two games that I have played for the reserves so far have given me confidence. I am fit now and I just want to start to play."
