Caley sign up Ex-Jambos striker Gary

INVERNESS Caledonian Thistle have signed former Hearts striker Gary McSwegan until the end of the season.

McSwegan was a free agent having agreed his release with Ross County before the transfer deadline.

The ex-Rangers and Kilmarnock player had an injury-plagued two years at Dingwall but manager Charlie Christie was happy to take a chance on the 35-year-old hit-man.

He said: "With Dennis Wyness injured, I felt we needed a forward option and I spoke to a few people about Gary.

"He has something to prove and is delighted at this chance. We'll need to work on his fitness but his experience can be a help to us."

Caley were further boosted by the news that midfielder Ian Black signed a new two-year deal ending months of speculation about his future.

Tranent ace Black, capped by the Scotland Future side last season, was the subject of two failed offers from Dundee United and it was thought that he would soon depart the Highlanders.

However, the ex-Blackburn Rovers player is hoping he can catch the eye of Scotland manager Walter Smith with Caley.

He said: "I'm committing myself to the club, I like Inverness, and I hope I can get further international recognition by playing well here."
