DRIVER STRIVING FOR ACTION

PREMIER LEAGUE
By Gordon Waddell

ROOKIE Hearts hero Andy Driver crashed home a magnificent debut goal - then admitted he may have to follow Calum Elliot out on loan to get more first-team action.

The 18-year-old winger came on as a second-half sub for mentor Neil McCann and killed the game with Jambos' third in a 4-1 win, a blazing volley high past Mark Brown as he pounced on Ross Tokely's blunder.

Now Driver (right) will hang fire to see if he's in the first-team picture for good - and if not he'll look for a loan deal to get him action elsewhere.

The Oldham-born ace said: "I was delighted to get on the park for the first time.

"I was on the bench five times last season but this is my first chance.

"And to cap it with a goal was great. If I'd taken time to think about the finish it might have ended up in row Z but it fell nicely and I just hit it.

"Now I'd love a few more games and with the UEFA Cup campaign and injuries we have maybe the chances will be there."

If they're not, Driver - who's yet to sign the five-year deal in front of him, settling instead for the two he has left for now - admits he'll have to think about a temporary move.

Striker Elliot completed a shock loan switch to Motherwell last week and Driver admitted: "I was surprised at that as Calum did well last season.

"But he'll prove he's easily good enough there and I wouldn't be worried about doing the same.

"It depends on what the boss thinks would be best but I'd consider a loan it if was my best chance of first-team football.
