Huntly's first-half strikes sink Queens

5 Jan 1993

Huntly 2, Queen of the South 1

HIGHLAND League side Huntly earned themselves a Scottish Cup cash bonanza at Tynecastle on Saturday after victory over Queen of the South last night.

Hearts manager Joe Jordan was in a crowd of 3000 to see the home side strike twice in the first half, but despite a spirited second-half showing by Queens, it was Huntly's night.

After eight minutes, a great three-man move took them into the lead.

Selbie found Thomson, who released Copland to race 25 yards and hammer the ball home.

And after 40 minutes, Huntly struck again when Thomson's cross was headed into the net by Rougvie.

Six minutes after the restart, Queens were back in the cup tie when Rowe's free kick found Henderson, who scored.

Queens piled on the pressure.

Gardiner denied Henderson, from the corner, Fermanni hit the bar, and minutes later, the Huntly keeper was a hero again with a point-blank save from Rowe.
